Following a career in theatre, Lucienne van der Mijle studied photography in Amsterdam and specialised in theatre photography. She made her first acquaintance with Japan in the eighties. In the early nineties, she was commissioned to photograph the percussion group Wadaiko Ichiro. She has since created photographic series of various Asian percussion groups and contemporary dance (Yamato – The Drummers of Japan) and sword-dancing companies. In 2000, Lucienne van der Mijle created the documentary “Fishermen's lives in Hirado and Vlissingen” in which she captured the lives of fishing families.
ルシエーヌは、舞踏家としてのキャリアを積んだ後、アムステルダムで写真を学び、舞台写真を専攻しました。８０年代に日本と最初の関わり持ち、９０年代初頭には、打楽器集団「和太鼓一郎」の写真撮影を依頼されました。その後、彼女はさまざまなアジアの打楽器演奏、現代舞踏、剣の舞等の写真を撮ってきました。また日本の和太鼓グループ「倭（やまと）」の専属写真家でもあります。 ２０００年には写真集「平戸とフリッシンゲンの漁師生活」を制作し、日本とオランダの漁師家族の生活を写真に残しました。
